WHY IT IS CONVENIENT TO USE A TORQUE METER

Higher productivity
A drive utilizing a torque meter can be pushed to a higher throughput. This results in higher productivity.

Efficiency
The torque meter can be used to determine the efficiency of a gearbox or a turbine, through real time display of actual power.

Machinery protection
The torque meter can provide indication of peak torque to prevent damage to machinery. A visual or acoustic alarm can be activated. The peak signal can also be e-mailed, or sent via SMS.

Condition monitoring
For continuous indication of performance deterioration of machines.

LMI TORQUE METERS

LMI Torque Meters are basically made out of a rotor, a stator and a digital readout instrument. Since the stator is separated from the rotor (no contact between static and rotating parts), the system is completely maintenance free. Torque is measured by directly connecting the torque meter to the shaft whose torque must be measured by means of bolts, flanges or keyways. The system is strain-gauge based, and the signal from the strain gauges is transmitted to the outside receiver by means of a capacitive transfer technique. Electrical power to the gauges is continuously supplied by means of magnetic induction.

LMI is the only company manufacturing torque meters in the whole African continent. Two LMI torque meters have been installed on Rooivalk helicopters.
